This is an odd new release as Paxil CR is not longer acting than Paxil. They are both given once a day. Rather the new CR drug is supposed to have fewer GI side effects. Paxil CR is enteric coated for controlled release so the drug is released further down in the intestines away from the stomach hence the fewer GI side effects. Paxil CR is available in stronger milligram strengths, but less is absorbed so the higher strength tablet in Paxil CR is not stronger than Paxil tablet in the corresponding strength.
